Lesson 7 - Paying for the item

Now that we've won the item we need to pay for it.  There are two main methods, PAYPAL and Direct Debit.

I sell a lot of items overseas so I use PAYPAL for all those transactions but they do charge fees to the seller of around 3%, so for local transactions I prefer Direct Debit to my bank account (no fees).
We'll look at both payment methods.

First of all you will get a screen that lets you choose how to pay for the item - please don't use another method unless you talk to the seller first; I've sent several personal cheques back to buyers.

PAYPAL

This is the screen you will see if you use PAYPAL, simply sign in and then follow the prompts.  PAYPAL have made this site very easy to use.

DIRECT DEBIT

If you use Direct Debit then this screen will appear; it shows the bank details of the seller.  Simply goto where ever you do your online banking (all financial institutes in Australia offer online banking) and use the account information to pay the seller.

MARK THE ITEM AS PAID

I admit it, I have a bad memory, so when I pay someone I always mark it off.  The screen shot above is accessed by clicking the 'my ebay' button which is always at the top of the screen (to the right of 'Buy' and 'Sell').  On the drop down menu click on 'mark as payment sent' and then wait for the item.

When the seller has received the payment (direct debit can take 2-5 days to clear into their account) they should leave you feedback (they won't always).
When you receive the item (and you're happy with it), then you can use the same drop down menu to leave feedback.
If you are not happy with the item then contact the seller first to try and solve the problem, do not leave negative feedback straight away.

That's all there is to it!
