NEXT LESSON (Let's buy something)

Lesson 2 - Create an account

Chances are you already have an ebay account; if you do then feel free to skip to the next lesson, if not then read on.

What I will do below is to set up another account for myself that I will use to buy items and to sell a few items.  My other account is used for business purposes :)

The only thing you will need before you start is a valid credit card; if you don't have one then you will need to contact ebay and ask them how to create an account without one.

First thing we do is to goto the main page of ebay which you can get to by clicking ebay.com.au
On this page you need to click on the REGISTER button (which is highlighted by a red circle in the graphic below).

Registering is a simple process and requires filling in a simple form with your personal information.  Note that all this information is kept secret by ebay and not sold (or given) to anyone else.

Then you scroll down the page and fill in a bit more and create a username (you can always change your username later) -

It may take a few times to think of an original name; remember there are over 200 million user names already taken - but ebay does offer some alternatives (you don't have to use their suggestions).

Once you have a name then you create your own password; try to make it a minimum of 6 characters and mix up some letters in their as well - 'james' is bad, '7jam65' is good.
If ebay ever need to ask you a question then they will verify you by asking your date of birth, so fill this out correctly (ebay will NEVER ask you for your password when attempting to verify you).

Scroll down the page a bit more and you will be asked to agree to ebay's terms and agreements.  If you don't agree then you won't be allowed to create an account.

The only step left is to enter your credit card number; don't worry, it's perfectly safe and you won't be charged anything.

The last step is simple, wait for an email from ebay (which looks like the picture below)

and simply click on the line 'activate your membership'!
NOTE THAT THIS IS THE ONLY TIME YOU SHOULD EVER CLICK ON A LINK IN AN EMAIL FROM EBAY!

That's it!  Now you have your own ebay account!
